Profile Picture Maker (Circle Crop)

Create circular profile pictures for social media. Auto-crop to circle with transparent background.

What is a Profile Picture Maker?

A Profile Picture Maker crops your photo into a circular shape suitable for social media profile pictures. Most platforms (Instagram, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Twitter, Discord) display profile pictures as circles or rounded squares — uploading a square image gets cropped automatically, but you have no control over the result. This tool gives you full control: center-crops your image, applies a clean circular mask, optionally adds white background or keeps transparency. Output PNG with transparent background works perfectly when the social platform applies its own circular crop. Generates standard sizes (200, 400, 800px) for any platform.

How to use this tool

  1. Upload your photo — Any photo — portrait, landscape, full body.
  2. Choose output size — 200×200 (small), 400×400 (standard), 800×800 (high-res).
  3. Toggle background — Transparent (default) or white. Transparent recommended for platform circles.
  4. Preview circular result — Tool center-crops to square, then masks circle.
  5. Download PNG — Use as profile picture on any social platform.

Crop and mask logic

For non-square input:

  • Find shorter dimension (width or height)
  • Crop to centered square of that dimension
  • Apply circular clipping mask
  • Result: circular crop centered in image

For best results, photo should have your face/subject in the center of the frame.

Examples

  • Instagram bio: Square selfie cropped to perfect circle
  • LinkedIn headshot: Professional photo, neutral background
  • WhatsApp DP: 500×500 circular crop, transparent background
  • Discord avatar: 1024×1024 high-res circular
  • Brand logo: Make square logo into circular profile image

Tips & best practices

  • Center your face/subject in original photo — tool center-crops automatically
  • Use 400×400 minimum — future-proof for high-DPI displays
  • Transparent background recommended — platforms apply their own background colors
  • For LinkedIn: face should fill ~60% of frame, neutral background
  • Save as PNG — JPEG loses quality on edges of circular mask

Frequently Asked Questions

Why don't I just upload square photo?

You can — platforms apply circular crops automatically. But tool ensures: (1) you preview exactly what users see, (2) consistent across platforms, (3) you control the centering.

What size is best?

400×400 for most uses. 800×800 if you want maximum quality (HiDPI Retina displays). 200×200 only for low-bandwidth contexts.

Does PNG with transparency work everywhere?

Yes — all major platforms support PNG with transparency. Transparent corners disappear into the platform's circular crop seamlessly.

Can I add a border?

Not in this tool — just circular crop. For colored borders, use Add Border to Image tool.

Why not just use my phone's built-in crop?

Phone crops to square but with arbitrary cropping behavior. This tool consistently center-crops + applies circular mask for predictable output.
