Passport Size Photo Maker
Make a passport size photo online: crop to 35x45 mm, 2x2 in, PAN card or stamp size at 300 DPI and print a 4x6 or A4 sheet. Free, private, in your browser.
What is a passport size photo maker?
A passport size photo maker turns an ordinary portrait into a photo with the exact physical size an application form asks for. This free MavexTech passport size photo maker crops your picture to 35 x 45 mm for an Indian passport or visa, 2 x 2 inch (51 x 51 mm) for a US visa or OCI application, 25 x 35 mm for a PAN card, 20 x 25 mm stamp size, or any custom size in millimetres. It then lays out as many copies as fit on 4 x 6 inch photo paper or an A4 sheet, ready to print at a shop or at home.
Everything happens inside your browser. Your photo is never uploaded to a server, so you can safely use it for identity documents.
How to use the passport photo maker
- Upload a photo — take a straight, well-lit picture against a plain white or light wall and choose it above (JPG, PNG or WebP).
- Pick the size — India passport (35 x 45 mm) is selected by default. Switch to 2 x 2 in, PAN card, stamp size or enter a custom size.
- Position your face — drag the photo inside the frame and zoom until your head fills most of the frame. The dashed oval is a rough guide for where the face sits.
- Fine-tune — adjust brightness and contrast if the picture is too dark or flat, or rotate it if your phone saved it sideways.
- Download — save the single photo as a 300 DPI JPG for online forms, or download a print sheet as JPG or PDF.
- Print at 100% — when printing the PDF choose "Actual size" (not "Fit to page") so each photo comes out at exactly the right size, then cut along the thin grey lines.
How it works: millimetres, pixels and DPI
Printed size depends on resolution. Photo labs and printers normally work at 300 dots per inch (DPI), and one inch is 25.4 mm. The tool therefore converts each size with:
pixels = round(mm ÷ 25.4 × 300)
For an Indian passport photo: 35 ÷ 25.4 × 300 = 413.4, so the width is 413 px; 45 ÷ 25.4 × 300 = 531.5, so the height is 531 px. The downloaded JPG is 413 x 531 px and its file header is set to 300 DPI, so photo software prints it at about 35 x 45 mm. A 2 x 2 inch photo becomes 600 x 600 px, a PAN card photo 295 x 413 px and a stamp size photo 236 x 295 px.
The print sheet uses a 3 mm margin and the gap you choose (2 mm by default). A 4 x 6 inch sheet is 1200 x 1800 px at 300 DPI. In portrait it fits 2 columns x 3 rows = 6 passport photos; turned to landscape it fits 4 x 2 = 8, so "Auto" picks landscape and gives you 8 copies. An A4 sheet (2480 x 3508 px) fits 5 x 6 = 30 copies of a 35 x 45 mm photo. In the PDF every photo is placed in points (mm × 72 ÷ 25.4), so a 35 x 45 mm photo measures 99.2 x 127.6 pt and prints at true size.
India passport photo requirements
These are the commonly published requirements for Indian passport photos. Rules can change and differ for visas and other documents, so always check the latest photo guidelines on the official Passport Seva website before you apply.
- Size 35 x 45 mm (about 3.5 x 4.5 cm), in colour.
- Plain white or off-white background, with no shadows or patterns behind you.
- A close-up of the head and top of the shoulders; the face should cover roughly 80% of the photo.
- Face looking straight at the camera, eyes open and clearly visible, neutral expression, mouth closed.
- Even lighting, no red-eye, no glare on spectacles; avoid tinted glasses.
- No caps or hats, except headwear worn for religious reasons, and the full face must still be visible.
- A recent photograph, printed on good-quality photo paper without marks or folds.
Common uses
- Passport and visa forms — 35 x 45 mm prints for the Passport Seva Kendra appointment, or a JPG for online visa uploads.
- US visa and OCI — 2 x 2 inch square photos; check the current pixel and file-size limits of the specific portal.
- PAN card — 25 x 35 mm photos for a physical PAN application form.
- Exam, school and job forms — stamp size 20 x 25 mm or a custom size printed in bulk on one A4 sheet.
Tips for a good passport photo
- Stand about half a metre in front of a plain white wall, facing a window, so your face is evenly lit without harsh shadows.
- Ask someone else to take the photo at eye level; selfies at arm's length distort the face.
- Use the highest resolution your phone offers. Larger originals give sharper 300 DPI prints.
- If your background is not plain, remove it first with a background removal app, save as transparent PNG, and use the white fill here.
- Print a test sheet on plain paper and measure one photo with a ruler before using photo paper.
Limitations & notes
This tool crops, resizes and lays out your photo; it does not detect faces, check compliance or remove backgrounds automatically. The white or light blue fill only appears in transparent parts of an image. Acceptance of a photo is always decided by the authority that receives it. HEIC photos from iPhones need converting to JPG first. If your printer scales the PDF, the photos will be the wrong size, so always print at 100% / actual size.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the size of an Indian passport photo in pixels?
At 300 DPI a 35 x 45 mm passport photo is 413 x 531 pixels. This tool exports exactly that size with the JPG resolution set to 300 DPI, so it prints at 35 x 45 mm.
How many passport photos fit on a 4x6 sheet?
With a 3 mm margin and 2 mm gaps, 8 photos of 35 x 45 mm fit on a 4 x 6 inch sheet in landscape (4 columns x 2 rows), or 6 in portrait. An A4 sheet fits 30.
Does this tool remove the background from my photo?
No. The white or light blue fill is applied only to transparent areas, such as a PNG whose background was already removed. For a normal photo, shoot against a plain white or off-white wall.
What background colour is required for an Indian passport photo?
The widely published requirement is a plain white or off-white background without shadows. Check the current Passport Seva photo guidelines before applying, as rules can change.
How do I print the photos at the correct size?
Download the sheet as PDF and print it with the scale set to 100% or Actual size. Do not use Fit to page. Measure one photo with a ruler after a test print.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Cropping, adjustments and the PDF are all created in your browser. Your photo never leaves your device.
Can I make a 2x2 inch photo for a US visa or OCI?
Yes. Choose the 2 x 2 in (51 x 51 mm) size, which exports a 600 x 600 pixel JPG. Online portals often have their own pixel and file-size limits, so check the current rules for your application.
